SINGAPORE – Excitement over the launch of the new Singapore national team jerseys by adidas has turned to frustration for some Lions fans, who received the wrong sizes after placing their orders.

These fans are now racing to secure replacements before Singapore’s Aug 7 ASEAN Championship match against Indonesia and the National Day weekend.

The German sportswear giant and the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) kicked off a multi-year partnership on Aug 1 with new home-and-away kits that went on sale on Aug 2. The national team jersey retail at $99 each, while the on-field authentic top costs $169.

Lions fan Shafique Saat, 32, said that he had purchased three authentic versions of the home kit on the adidas mobile app on Aug 2.

He had exchanged adiClub (membership programme by adidas) points that he had amassed for a 30 per cent discount voucher and ordered two large jerseys and one in small for himself, a friend and his brother-in-law for which he paid about $354.

On Aug 4, when he collected the jerseys from a parcel pick-up station, he found two XL and one small-size jerseys instead. Shafique told The Straits Times that he has since reached out to adidas via the app, and was told that they would check and e-mail him after investigating. He has yet to hear from them.

Shafique said: “We were very excited about the kit launch and were looking forward to receiving them. I feel for my friend and brother-in-law because it is their jerseys that had come in the wrong sizes and they wanted to wear it for the National Day weekend.

“I also thought this was an isolated incident, but when I looked online, I realise that so many others are facing the same issue.”

In an Instagram update at about 2pm on Aug 5, adidas Singapore said that it is aware of “an issue affecting online orders related to pricing and product sizing” and added: “We are currently looking into this and will share more information shortly. Thank you for your patience.”
