Carefully curated finds: Meet Gen Z sellers behind Telegram’s growing thrift scene

SINGAPORE – Telegram has emerged as a growing marketplace for second-hand fashion among Gen Z shoppers. Buyers are turning to the platform for its convenience and listings, and for sellers, the messaging app has become a space to scale their businesses.

The Straits Times speaks to two Telegram sellers on how the platform is being used, from day-to-day operations to behind-the-scenes processes.

Since starting her Telegram channel in July 2024, Ms Claire Chan, 24, a recent National University of Singapore graduate, has grown Clairousells to nearly 4,000 subscribers.

The business is built on her whimsical offering of second-hand fashion – an aesthetic she describes as “fairycore”, centred on colourful pieces, embroidery and intricate detailing.

Her buyers are not simply looking for something cheap. Many go to her channel for unique pieces they are unlikely to find elsewhere.
